BOTOX® Cosmetic

Botulinum Toxin is derived from the commonly known organism responsible for the crippling affliction of botulism. By isolating and purifying this toxin, medical treatment with the use of BOTOX® has been successfully performed for more than 15 years. Dr. Selem has experience with the use of BOTOX® for more than 5 years, treating ocular-related conditions such as blepharospasm. Dr. Selem also has been using BOTOX® Cosmetic for the cosmetic treatment of lines and wrinkles for 5 years. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections diminish lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for their cause. This is particularly effective in treating glabellar folds (vertical wrinkling between the eyebrows), crow's feet (wrinkling at the outer corners of the eyes), and horizontal forehead wrinkles. Dr. Selem is also able to produce a "mini" brow lift by paralyzing selective muscles under the eyebrow.

Dysport®

Dysport® is a new treatment for wrinkles that works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkling, much like BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dysport was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in the United States in April 2009, but it has been used for many years in Europe with an excellent safety profile. Many patients feel that Dysport® may begin to work sooner than BOTOX® Cosmetic, but additional studies may be needed before the evidence is considered conclusive. Dr. Selem has been offering Dysport® injections since the treatment was approved by the FDA. Dysport® injections diminish lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles responsible for their cause.
